GENEVA (ILO) – The Republic of Korea and the ILO have signed a US$ 3 million agreement to jointly promote employment, skills, social protection and occupational safety and health in Asia and Africa.

With a focus on achieving concrete results through targeted projects, the partnership works closely with Korean partner institutions to exchange knowledge and technical expertise, including through Korean officials seconded to key ILO technical units.

The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) and the ILO, and is a continuation of the long-standing collaboration in development cooperation. Dae-Hwan Kim, Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau at the MOEL, and Rie Vejs-Kjeldgaard, ILO Director for Partnerships, signed the agreement at the ILO headquarters in Geneva.

ILO Deputy Director-General, Moussa Oumarou voiced appreciation for the continued support of the Republic of Korea to ILO’s development cooperation programme. Also speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Kyong-lim Choi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the UN in Geneva, said that the Republic of Korea would be strengthening its commitment to the support of employment policies and labour rights in developing countries through a coordinated partnership with the ILO.
