The African Development Bank - ILO Cooperation

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the ILO have different missions and mandates, both working together to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and employment in alignment with the Decent Work Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

AfDB and the International Training Centre of the ILO also have a long-standing collaboration focusing primarily on:
  • Jobs for Youth capacity-building programme: How to increase results on jobs for youth in the Bank’s sector operations; and
  • Procurement training for Bank staff.

The African Development Bank's strategic contributions to the ILO

From 2016 to 2022, AfDB contributed US$ 28.3 million to the ILO. With the financial support of the AfDB, the ILO is currently implementing 13 projects in different sub-regions of Africa with a total value of US$ 19.9 million.

The African Development Bank's development cooperation priorities

AfDB aims to contribute to poverty reduction in its regional member countries by supporting inclusive and sustainable economic development through the mobilization and allocation of investment resources and the provision of policy advice and technical assistance. Ensuring that all of its activities are aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, AfDB’s ten-year strategy also prioritises supporting fragile states as well as work in the thematic areas of agriculture, food security and gender.
