Launch of Joint Statement of Commitment on HIV and AIDS of the Central Trade Unions of India

The five major central trade unions: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), recognizing the seriousness of HIV & AIDS affecting the labour force, through this statement, urge all their affiliates and members to provide priority to HIV/AIDS.

The project facilitated the launch of a Joint Statement of Commitment on HIV and AIDS of the Central Trade Unions of India in Delhi. The five major central trade unions: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), recognizing the seriousness of HIV and AIDS affecting the labour force, through this statement, urge all their affiliates and members to provide priority to HIV and AIDS. The statement consists of four case studies of trade unions' HIV & AIDS interventions, supported by ILO to cover workers in the informal economy. The section on frequently asked questions and answers to them serves as an easy reference in building basic knowledge on HIV transmission and prevention, and address common myths and misconceptions.
