The increasing prevalence of informality in many developing economies has resulted in very little to no social security coverage for a large chunk of the population. This means lack of access to health care, income security, education among others.

Markus Ruck stresses on the need to raise awareness about existing social security schemes and benefits, and calls for greater regional cooperation to strengthen the implementation and management of social security schemes.

He says, “Only by working together (governments, employers and workers organizations), social protection will no longer be a privilege for a few, but a reality for all”.
