Rural road infrastructure

Strengthening National Rural Transport Programme (SNRTP)

The project aims to enhance the availability and reliability of transport connectivity for rural communities in the thirty-six (36) districts in Nepal. It will assist in building bridges and maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrading of the local road networks and river crossing.

Project background

It is a bilateral agreement signed between the Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR), Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD), with ILO. This is the fund from the World Bank granted to the DoLIDAR, MoFALD.

Project strategy

The project contributes at improving rural accessibility. It has two key components; i.)Institutional strengthening and beneficiary monitoring of physical works and ii.) Maintenance and upgrading of rural transport infrastructure.

It employs local workers, mainly women and in coordination with financial institutions and service providers on skill development training on road maintenance and income generation to improve the economic situation.

Project outputs

There are two Outcomes to be achieved from this Project:
Outcome 1: Increased access to all-weather transport connectivity
Outcome 2: Improved reliability of rural transport infrastructure

The Project targets to create 3.9 million days paid job through maintenance.
