Pakistan’s journey towards elimination of child labour: A timeline

Recognizing the efforts towards the prevention and elimination of Child Labour in Pakistan, this knowledge product provides a historical account of key legislative, policy and strategic milestones including the application of international treaties, social development programmes and key institutional mechanisms, while calling for accelerated action to achieve the SGD target 8.7.

This knowledge product was developed by Asia Regional Child Labour (ARC) Project (2019-2023), funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The ARC Project aims at reducing vulnerability to child labour and enhancing protection of children from exploitation in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Pakistan to contribute to the eradication of child labour, particularly its worst forms.

This knowledge product captures the key milestones concerning prevention and elimination of child labour in Pakistan including ratified international treaties, national and provincial policies, legislations and strategies, development programmes and major institutions. The product will be used for advocacy and awareness raising of relevant stakeholders and advocating with state machinery for necessary actions to eliminate child labour.
