Decent work profile: East Java (Jawa Timur)

The Decent Work Profile for East Java has been prepared by national consultants in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (Depnakertrans), the Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistics), and the University of Jakarta, with technical assistance of the ILO. National partners identified a list of decent work indicators relevant for Indonesia during a 2010 consultation workshop in Jakarta. From this, a national Decent Work Country Profile was developed comprising both statistical data and legal and policy information in an integrated assessment of recent progress toward decent work. The Profile was prepared by academics from the University of Jakarta, with the cooperation and involvement of trade unions and employers’ representatives, the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Ministry of Finance, BAPPENAS, and BPS, and its content was reviewed through an extensive consultation process before being launched in May 2012. During the post-launch discussions, constituents expressed a desire to develop a number of provincial profiles to capture divergent decent work trends at the subnational level. In East Java, consultations on a proposed profile were held in May 2012 between ILO, government officials, BPS, unions and employers, and recommendations were made regarding themes for special consideration in the East Javan context. This document is one of three pilot provincial profiles recently developed in Indonesia with the support of the ILO/EC Project, Monitoring and Assessing Progress on Decent Work (MAP).
