South-South Cooperation for the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers in Latin America and the Caribbean Region

The project aims to promote the effective recognition of the rights of migrant workers in Latin America and the Caribbean region, through the sharing of good practices and the strengthening of policies and actions that aim to protect the rights of migrant workers in the countries involved in the initiative.

Background

The world has been experiencing significant changes in terms of the dominant economic and social standards. This dynamic has strongly influenced the overall migration patterns. People move between countries in search of better life opportunities or to apprehend different work and cultural experiences. In Latin America and in the Caribe this process is no different. The peculiar economic and social situation of some countries in the central-south regions has attracted intra-regional and extra-regional migration flows, although their policies and laws need to be updated to better coordinate the movement of people.
In an attempt to support the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean region in the development of policies and actions to protect migrant workers in the region, this project aims to contribute to the improvement of legal frameworks on labour migration while promoting the concepts of decent work, social dialogue and international labour standards.
