ILO and UGTT meeting on unionization of migrant workers in Tunisia

The meeting presented an opportunity to discuss the FAIR project’s strategic axes related to the labour movement in Tunisia.

The ILO carried out a mission to Tunisia early January, during which a meeting with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) was held. The meeting discussed the FAIR project’s strategic axes related to the labour movement, and a number of relevant issues including:
  • Discussing opportunities and challenges related to unionization of the migrant workers in Tunisia
  • Selecting sectoral and geographic priorities for the project activities
  • Identifying activities for 2016-2017 under the FAIR project

The FAIR programme is a global initiative funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. It seeks to:
  • Establish fair recruitment corridors to prevent abuses and exploitation of migrant workers
  • Provide migrant workers with access to reliable information and enhanced services
  • Conduct innovative research and disseminate knowledge on fair recruitment
