    Around one million children are trafficked worldwide today, and there is growing concern that the global economic crisis may further increase child vulnerability to trafficking. The ILO has been leading the fight against child trafficking, and is now taking the struggle to those best placed to help stop it through a new training package. ILO On-line talked to Hans van de Glind, Senior specialist and focal point for child trafficking of the ILO International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour.

    Aired on CNN World Report, ILO TV travels to Italy where a special unit of the Carabinieri is tracking down perpetrators of human trafficking and forced labour.

  2. US Trafficking in persons report 2009: Financial crisis feeds human trade

    The congressionally mandated report provides data from 175 countries about the level of human trafficking occurring within their borders. The report cites the International Labour Organization estimate that at least 12.3 million adults and children are victims of forced labour, bonded labour and sex slavery annually

  3. New ILO study on migrant workers and their vulnerability to exploitation, trafficking and forced labour in Bangladesh

    This qualitative study of returned migrants by Dr. Rita Afsar of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) in Dhaka has shed new light on some of the complexities and problems faced by Bangladeshi migrant workers leaving the country to work in the Gulf States, as well as the benefits that such migration can bring.

  1. Identifying Good Practices for Producers/Purchasers to Reduce the Use of Child or Forced Labor

    The workshop is part of a National Research Council (NRC) study sponsored by the Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) of the Department of Labor. Participants will discuss the elements of a possible framework for identifying and organizing a standard set of practices that will reduce the likelihood that persons will use forced labor or child labor to produce goods, with a focus on business and governmental practices.
