South-South Learning Exchange between Sudan and Jordan on Employment-Intensive Investments

Amman, Jordan – on 27 March, 8 Sudanese delegates, representing the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, and an official of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Sudan, made a study visit to Amman, Jordan to exchange knowledge and share experiences with the Jordanian constituents as well as the ILO team in Jordan for 5 days.

This South-South learning journey, facilitated by the ITCILO, included all possible means of training, from field visits where projects are under implementation in the Umm Al-Quttin area, and technical lectures by subject-matter specialists throughout project lifecycle, for successful management of employment-intensive programmes and projects. The training was conducted in a hybrid method with face-to-face and virtual formats depending on the contents of the training.

The study trip was structured as a two-way approach – it was not only the Sudanese delegation that benefitted from the technical expertise of the Jordanian teams, but also vice versa. The two countries, facing similar challenges, exchanged ideas to identify “appropriate” solutions to tackle these challenges together.

There is a growing interest in South-South cooperation at an international level. This type of peer-to-peer learning opportunities can be tapped into with a view to enhancing the effectiveness and synergies between different projects in different countries across regions.
