The International Day of Cooperatives is commemorated on first Saturday of July each year. On account of the historical partnership between the ILO and the international cooperative movement, ILO senior management issues a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Cooperatives, each year. ILO DG Guy Ryder’s speech was delivered on July 1st in time for the International Day of Cooperatives on July 2nd, 2022.

In his statement the ILO DG pointed out that the promotion of cooperatives is embedded in the constitutional mandate of the ILO. Mr Ryder underlined the close ties between the ILO and the international cooperative movement. The resolution on decent work and the social and solidarity economy, adopted at the 110th International Labour Conference, demonstrates how cooperatives and other social and solidarity economy entities put people and decent work at the centre, while contributing to a more sustainable and socially inclusive future, he noted.
