    The webinar was organized by ILO COOP and ILO PROSPECTS to highlight the role and contributions of cooperatives and other social and solidarity economy organizations (SSEOs) in forced displacement contexts, and the work of both field practitioners and the ILO on this subject.

    ILO in Iraq joins forces with local authorities in Dohuk to implement employment-intensive interventions

    Supported by the Government of the Netherlands, the collaboration will help generate decent jobs for forcibly displaced persons and host community members in Iraq through water irrigation maintenance and solid waste management.

    Syrian garment worker in Jordan continues to support her family during pandemic

    17 December 2020

    A year ago, Batoul, Syrian refugee in Jordan found work at a garment factory through an ILO-supported employment centre. The factory was forced to close temporarily during the pandemic. Even so, Batoul continued to receive a salary which she uses to provide for her young daughter, who has a spinal condition.

    Video: Impact of COVID-19 on youth in Lebanon

    In 2019, the ILO supported a group of Syrian refugee and Lebanese youth to establish income generating activities to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance among vulnerable groups. COVID-19 has created economic challenges to these youth, many of whom are now trying to find ways to adapt to the new ways of work.

    Social cohesion in fragile contexts through TVET

    A cohort of TVET and other educational practitioners received training on core skills for social cohesion and peaceful coexistence from 30 November to 03 December 2020 in Jigjiga, Ethiopia, in an effort by ILO to promote stronger economic relations and contacts between Forcibly Displaced Populations (FDPs) and their host communities.

    Bringing together the ILO, IFC, UNHCR, UNICEF and the World Bank, the Prospects Partnership aims to provide conditions for refugees and host communities to access quality primary education and vocational training; secure and retain decent employment; and benefit from a strengthened protection framework.
