    At the end of June 2021, the ILO PROSPECTS programme in Sudan held a four-day workshop with representatives from the East Darfur and West Kordofan Local Economic Development Committees (LEDCs).

    ILO employment-intensive interventions promote decent work in Iraq

    In Dohuk, Iraq, the ILO and local authorities have launched employment-intensive interventions in water irrigation and waste management. The schemes support decent employment for Syrian refugees, internally displaced persons and host community members. The majority of participants are women.

    The winners of the competition will benefit from seed funding and coaching by the ILO for a period of six months that will help them set up their own businesses.

    The training targets young internally displaced people, refugees and host community members looking to start their businesses, or existing businesses wanting to develop and grow their enterprises.

    World Refugee Day: The power of inclusion

    20 June 2021

    World Refugee Day, 20 June, is the international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and events seriously disturbing public order. This goal continues to grow in importance as the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates that almost 82.5 million were forcibly displaced at the end of 2020.

    ILO trains trainers on financial education in Iraq

    The training equips future trainers with knowledge in financial management topics so they can enhance the financial skills of young people and entrepreneurs, under an ILO initiative to improve livelihoods and self-employment of host communities and refugees in Iraq.

    Netherlands and ILO officials visit interventions supporting decent work for displaced populations and host communities in Iraq

    The interventions are part of the PROSPECTS programme, spearheaded by the Government of the Netherlands, which seeks to improve access to employment, education and protection.

    ILO's My First Business training programme promotes entrepreneurship among young Lebanese nationals and Syrian refugees

    With support from the Government of the Netherlands, the ILO has trained over 650 vulnerable women and men, the majority of whom are youth, on its My First Business entrepreneurship training programme, promoting livelihoods and decent job creation with a focus on the agriculture and agro-food sectors.

    Global pool of multi-lingual trainers established to make finance work for refugees and host communities around the world

    The capacity development of trainers in “Making Finance Work for Refugees and Host communities” aims to develop a pool of trainers to be deployed around the world to teach and technically support financial services providers in expanding their services to refugees’ market segments, which will in turn enable refugees and host communities to access more suitable financial services.

    The ILO and the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) join forces to support youth and refugees in Greater Cairo

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) have signed an agreement to implement the apprenticeship programme for Egyptian youth and refugee communities in Greater Cairo.
