Site visit organized by the Government of the Republic of Singapore to the Marina BarrageSustainability has always been integral to Singapore’s development, and we have been tackling challenges to ensure a clean and green environment. An important component of our work in this area is the Marina Barrage, which creates a freshwater lake to boost Singapore’s water supply, prevents flooding in low-lying city areas and offers a venue for water-based activities in the heart of our city. Environmental sustainability and green principles are applied in all aspects of the design, construction, and operation of the barrage to utilize energy and water efficiently, and minimize waste generated.
Located in the Marina Barrage is the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, which provides an overview of Singapore’s sustainable development. It recounts past milestones and looks forward at the challenges for the future to create a livable and sustainable Singapore. The world is gearing up to take action to address environmental and resource sustainability and we expect to see the “green wave” touch every job. As we skill up for a green future, we hope that the visit will generate conversations and inspire delegates to leverage the global green agenda to do more to make sustainable development and growth a reality.
