Seminar on Sustainable Development in Postal Services in Asia-Pacific countries

This 4-day seminar on environmental and economic issues, gender equality, social dialogue, HIV/AIDS , and mainstreaming employment and decent work in postal services in Asia and the Pacific showed how sustainable development can foster performance and innovation in postal services.

As part of the continuing cooperation between the UPU and the ILO, this four-day seminar on environmental and economic issues, gender equality, social dialogue, HIV/AIDS and the world of work, and mainstreaming employment and decent work in postal services in Asia and the Pacific showed how sustainable development can foster performance and innovation in postal services. There were exchanges of good practices on sustainable development and decent work; and discussions on challenges and innovative practices relating to sustainable development. These allowed identification of actions to be carried out in the region, within the resources available and taking account of local legislation: The seminar prepared and adopted an action plan on sustainable development, specifying measures to be taken within a specific timeframe by Asia-Pacific Postal Union members, to address priorities on gender equality, people with disabilities, social dialogue, safety and health and HIV/AIDS, as well as economic and environmental priorities. SECTOR organized part of the seminar consisting of presentations and subsequent group work on gender equality, people with disabilities, HIV/AIDS and the workplace, occupational safety and health, and social dialogue.

Participation:
Senior executives from the postal services of 18 Asia-Pacific countries, as well as participants from UNI Global Union.
