ILO to launch global report on domestic workers

GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) is to publish a new report on the situation of domestic workers worldwide.

The report, Making decent work a reality for domestic workers: Progress and prospects ten years after the adoption of the Domestic Workers Convention, 2011 (No. 189), will be launched on 15 June 2021, ahead of International Domestic Workers Day 2021 on 16 June, the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the landmark Domestic Workers’ Convention.

The report compares the working conditions of domestic workers with those of the wider population, assesses how far things have moved on since the adoption of the Convention, and the impact of COVID-19 on domestic workers.

It includes regional estimates for Africa, the Americas, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, as well as regional, sub-regional and country data.

The report and all associated materials will be under STRICT EMBARGO until Tuesday 15 June at 12:00 GMT (14:00 CEST).

ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder will present the findings at an embargoed virtual press briefing for UNOG-accredited correspondents on Tuesday 15 June at 07:00 GMT (09:00 CEST).

Selected regional journalists will be able to follow the virtual briefing via YouTube. Links to the briefing will be sent in advance.
