Design Lab: Human-centric social security

The International Labour Office (ILO) in collaboration the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, and the European Union, implement a series of learning events entitled Design Lab: Human-centric social security.

The objective of the Lab is to increase the capacity of participants to develop digitally mediated solutions for people centric social security administration and services. The event draws on the expertise and practice in ILO, ISSA, World Bank, OECD, in the European Union and internationally. The sessions take place Wednesday, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June 2022. Through behavioral design and an applied and participatory approach, the Design Lab will be tailored to practical solutions responding to the needs of diverse workforce to extend social security coverage. At the end of the training sessions participants should be able to:

a) identify unsuitable behaviours (such as disengagement from social security) and the new behaviours that need to be promoted (such as higher use of social security services);
b) use supportive tools to design simple interventions to trigger new behaviours (such as higher affiliation to and higher levels of payment to social security); and
c) monitor, evaluate, and filter new ideas that promote the new behaviours.

Participants will develop concepts and strategies for behavioural change interventions using digital and communication tools within a governance framework respectful of human dignity and agency in line with international standards and best practice.

100 participants from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, its Information Centre and the Chinese Social Insurance Administration, from central administration, provincial and local funds.
