The ILO-MOHRSS Tripartite Seminar on the Forced Labour Convention (No. 29) and Protocol of 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention (P29) held in Beijing

The ILO-MOHRSS Tripartite Seminar on the Forced Labour Convention (No. 29) and Protocol of 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention (P29) was successfully held in Beijing on 13 May, paving the way for the Chinese government to ratify C29 and P29.

Representatives from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the China Enterprise Confederation, the Legal Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice, and other relevant government agencies attended the seminar to discuss the feasibility of ratification through gap analysis. ILO recapitulated the contents and fundamental character of relevant international labour standards on the elimination of forced labour, and shared global trends in respect of forced labour addressed by the ILO supervisory bodies.

[Convention No. 29 seeks the suppression of all forms of forced or compulsory labour and the punishment of forced labour with adequate penal sanctions.  Protocol No. 29 requires ratifying States to take additional measures to prevent forced labour and to rehabilitate and provide access to remedies for victims of forced labour.]
