Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Microfinance for Decent Work: Action Research

  2. Avian Influenza and the Workplace in Indonesia: Combating the Disease through Increased Awareness, Enhanced Information-sharing and Closer Adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Best Practices

    1 January 2008 - 31 December 2009

    The project aims to promote awareness on preventing the spread of Avian Influenza in the workplace and preparedness measures on occupational safety and health issues to reduce risks and impact of any outbreaks or pandemic.

  3. Mobilization and Capacity Building of Teachers’ Trade Union and Wider Trade Unions in Combating Child Labour in Indonesia

    1 January 2008 - 31 December 2011

    To mobilize and train Teachers' Trade Union (PGRI) officials, its members and other trade unionist to take actions to eliminate and prevent child labour.

  4. Mainstreaming Tripartism across the Netherlands/ILO Cooperation Programme (NICP) and Product Development for Employers’ and Workers’ Organizations

    1 January 2008 - 31 December 2010

    The project aims to strengthen tripartism and social dialogue.

  5. Combating Forced Labour and Trafficking of Indonesian Migrant Workers (Phase II)

    1 January 2008 - 31 December 2011

    The Project addresses the needs, rights and concerns of Indonesian migrant workers throughout the migration cycle. The project also focuses in particular on domestic workers, who are among the most vulnerable to forced labour and trafficking.

  6. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform in Bangladesh

    11 December 2007 - 11 December 2015

    The TVET Reform Project is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh, assisted by the International Labour Organisation and funded by the European Union. The goal is to ensure Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global market and reduce poverty by improving the quality of vocational educational and training.

  7. Avian and Human Influenza in the Workplace

    1 July 2007 - 30 June 2011

    The project aims at assisting workers and employers in promoting practical preventive actions at workplace level in order to protect themselves from Avian Influenza and the future Pandemic Human Influenza.

  8. Employment-intensive Growth for Indonesia: Job Opportunities for Young Women and Men (JOY)

    1 April 2007 - 30 April 2010

    The project aims to contribute to poverty reduction and the creation of income earning opportunities, especially for young women and men in Indonesia, through complementary national policies and local initiatives that lead to more employment-intensive economic growth.

  9. ACTRAV/ACTEMP/Norway Project on Youth Employment and Social Dialogue

    1 January 2007 - 31 December 2008

    The project aims to contribute to employment creation through promotion of social dialogue and cooperation between employers’ organizations and trade unions to create an enabling environment for improving employability of young people while rights are protected.

  10. Project of Support to the Indonesia Time Bound Programme on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour – Phase II

    1 January 2007 - 31 December 2011

    The project aims to support the Indonesian government in the prevention and elimination of the worst forms of child labour in Indonesia.

  11. Promotion of Decent Work for Young Women and Men Through Enhancement of Employment Possibilities in Sri Lanka

    1 January 2007 - 31 December 2010

    The project works to alleviate poverty, unemployment and underemployment among rural young people in Sri Lanka by helping them find work, vocational and entrepreneurship training. It also focuses on improving employment and recruitment services and is developing an English teaching curriculum for schools on plantations.

  12. Combating Forced Labour and Trafficking of Indonesian Migrant Workers

    1 September 2006 - 31 August 2008

    This project aims to protect migrant domestic workers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore & Hong Kong

  13. Economic and Social Empowerment of Returned Victims of Trafficking in the Philippines and Thailand: The Philippine Component

    1 May 2006 - 31 May 2009

    The project aimed to contribute to the reduction of trafficking in children and women for sexual and labour exploitation in Asia, through support to a humane reintegration process of returned trafficked victims back to their countries of origin.

  14. Support to Poverty Reduction and Promotion of Human Rights among the Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines in the Context of Ancestral Domain Development and Protection (Lake Sebu)

    1 April 2006 - 31 December 2008

    The Embassy of Finland through its Local Cooperation Funds (LCF) agreed to support the ILO's three-year project covering Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, Mindanao. The project agreement was signed in April 2006. It was a continuation of the collaborative work to extend assistance to indigenous peoples (IPs) in the Philippines by the Embassy of Finland and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2000.

  15. Creating Jobs: capacity building for local resource-based road works in selected districts in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and Nias

    1 March 2006 - 30 November 2012

    The Project’s development objective is to contribute to the restoration of the rural livelihoods in communities of disaster affected populations in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and Nias.

  16. The Indigenous Peoples Development Programme (IPDP): Lake Sebu, Philippines

    2 January 2006 - 31 December 2010

    Mindanao is known for its colourful indigenous cultural traditions and natural resources. The indigenous peoples of the T’boli and Ubo tribes make up 55 per cent of Lake Sebu’s population.

  17. Education and Skills Training for Youth Employment in Indonesia (EAST)

    1 January 2006 - 31 December 2010

    The EAST project aims to improve employability and capacity for entrepreneurship among young women and men through improved access to high quality, relevant educational and training opportunities, and eventually contribute to the elimination of child labour.

  18. Asian Programme on the Governance of Labour Migration

    1 January 2006 - 30 April 2009

    This programme, which is supported by the European Union, aims to promote dialogue and cooperation related to improved management of labour migration, with a particular emphasis on gender and rights. Its goal is to combat the exploitation and abuse of migrant workers in the Asian region.

  19. Promoting Youth Employment in the Philippines (PYEP)

    1 June 2005 - 31 December 2007

    A Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)-funded project that sought to facilitate the creation of employment opportunities for young women and men in the Philippines.

  20. Papua Indigenous Peoples Empowerment (PIPE) Programme: Reducing Poverty and Promoting Peace and Development in Papua and West Papua

    1 January 2005 - 31 December 2008

    The Project aims to contribute to the overall development of the indigenous peoples by helping them attain greater capacity and self-reliance in reducing poverty, promoting gender equality and strengthening peace and development mechanisms in their villages and communities.
