Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  2. Healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises in severely COVID-19 impacted Gampaha District of Sri Lanka

    1 January - 31 December 2022

    This project aims at contributing towards the healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises. It is implemented in Gampaha district that has been hardest hit by the pandemic both in terms of the health crisis and socio-economically. Gampaha hosts a large number of MSEs in the informal economy struggling to survive and build back from COVID19.

  3. Bringing Back Jobs Safely under the COVID-19 Crisis in the Philippines: Rebooting Small and Informal Businesses Safely and Digitally

    The ILO and the Government of Japan have partnered to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operate safely under the prolonged community quarantine and adapt to the New Normal business environment with improved workplace safety and health practices and better equipped to take advantage of the available digital tools and the expanding digital economy opportunities.

    The overall objective of the project is to support Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India to sustainably integrate in global supply chain in alignment to Decent Work (DW) agenda, and generate more and better quality jobs.

  10. Promoting productive employment and skills development in BARMM: Assessing the economic and labour market situation and skills needs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao

    With the support of the Australian Embassy in the Philippines, the ILO will undertake studies and consultations to better understand the skills development and labour market needs in BARMM and identify opportunities for policy making and programming.

  11. Enhancing COVID-19 Prevention at and through Workplaces: Job creation through Business Re-opening and Continuation

    The project aims to enhance COVID-19 prevention measures at and through workplaces amidst of the pandemic that will facilitate business re-opening, continuation and expansion.

  12. Supporting the socio-economic reintegration of Sri Lankan Migrant Workers repatriated due to the COVID-19 outbreak (IOM-ILO collaboration)

    This project aims at contributing towards sustainable reintegration of Sri Lankan migrant workers. The project has been designed with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in alignment with the National COVID-19 Response Plan for Migrant Workers, and the Sub Policy and National Action Plan on Return and Reintegration of Migrant Workers (2015). It is also broadly linked to the UN Advisory Note on COVID-19 Socioeconomic Response (July 2020) and the UN Sustainable Development Framework (under Human Security and Socioeconomic Resilience)

  13. Bolstering Unemployment Insurance and Labour Market Policy Development in Myanmar (BUILD)

    17 March 2021 - 31 March 2022

    The project “Bolstering Unemployment Insurance and Labour Market Policy Development in Myanmar (BUILD)” aims at improving unemployment protection including unemployment benefits and active labour market policies in Myanmar.

    Promoting and Building Social Protection in Asia (Indonesia - 4th phase)

    The project builds on the achievements made by ‘the ILO/Japan project for promoting and building social protection in Asia (3rd phase): Extending social security coverage in ASEAN (2016 – 2019)’ as well as other development cooperation projects.

  15. Asia Regional Child Labour Programme - Afghanistan (DWCP Outcome 2.4)

    1 February 2021 - 30 September 2023

    The Asia Regional Child Labour Programme (ARC) aims to reduce vulnerability to child labour and enhance protection of children from exploitation in Afghanistan to contribute to the eradication of child labour, particularly its worst forms. The ARC will contribute to the achievement of Outcome 2 of the Afghanistan Decent Work Country Programme.

  16. Young Futuremakers Thailand – Promoting Youth Employability

    1 February 2021 - 30 April 2022

    The Young Futuremakers Thailand project is part of the Futuremakers by Standard Chartered initiative and aims to support youth in the labour market, in particular disadvantaged young women and young persons with disabilities, through the provision of demand-led technical skills training, employability training, career guidance and job placements.

  17. Promoting decent work through good governance, protection and empowerment of migrant workers

    18 January 2021 - 31 August 2024

    Supported by the Government of Switzerland, this programme aims at ensuring an effective implementation of the Sri Lanka National Labour Migration Policy- Phase IV while promoting decent work through good governance, protection and empowerment of migrant workers.

  19. Sustainable Supply Chains to Build Forward Better: Decent Work in the Rubber Glove Supply Chain

    1 January 2021 - 31 March 2023

    “Sustainable Supply Chains to Build Forward Better” is a joint initiative of the International Labour Organization and European Commission (EC) that sets out to advance decent work in five selected global supply chains for a fair, resilient, and sustainable COVID-19 crisis recovery. Rubber glove manufacturing in Malaysia is one of them.

  20. Employment and Livelihood Project

    1 January 2021 - 28 February 2022

    This joint project between ILO, UNDP, UNHCR and UNAIDS aims to support women and vulnerable groups in Indonesia that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
