    Viet Nam acknowledges ILO contributions on labour, invalids and social affairs

    Ms Rie Vejs-Kjeldgaard, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country for Viet Nam, was awarded a medal to acknowledge her strong commitment and ILO’s contributions to labour, invalids and social affairs in Viet Nam. The medal was presented by Vice Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thanh Hoa on 26 July 2011 in Hanoi.

    New ILO survey reveals limited public support for migrant workers' rights in Asia

    There is limited support for the rights of migrant workers among the public according to a new multi-country study released by the ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. In general the report reveals higher levels of public support for migrant workers, in terms of their rights and their contribution, in Singapore and South Korea than in Malaysia and Thailand.

    Protecting Indonesian migrant workers against gender based violence and HIV and AIDS vulnerabilities

    Indonesian women migrant workers, a majority of whom work as domestic workers, are particularly vulnerable to gender based violence and to HIV and AIDS throughout the entire course of the migratory cycle. Gender based violence stands out as one of the main violations faced by women migrant workers and poses a direct risk to them of HIV infection.

    Indonesia to examine its progress towards achieving decent work

    The promotion of decent work is defined as “productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity”. The 2008 ILO Declaration on Social Justice and a Fair Globalization reaffirmed the commitment of Member States to promote decent work based on the four equally important strategic objectives: (1) promoting employment; (2) developing and enhancing measures of social protection; (3) promoting social dialogue and tripartism; and (4) respecting, promoting and realizing the fundamental principles and rights at work.

The 2010 National Child Labour Survey showed that 4 million children are working and 1.7 million of them are child labourers, with work that affect negatively their well being, their safety and their capacity to benefit from normal schooling.
