Technical meeting to discuss the development of a Good Labour Practices (GLP) Programme for shrimp and seafood industry to address child labour and forced labour

The ILO-IPEC organized a technical meeting with Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW), Department of Fisheries (DOF) and private sector members of the shrimp and seafood processing industry in Landmark Bangkok Hotel on 12 February 2013 concerning the development of a Good Labour Practices (GLP) programme.

The world we want: migrant workers need support

Future migrant workers expect more administrative and financial support to go abroad while returning migrant workers hope Viet Nam will soon become as developed as the countries where they used to work. The recommendations were among the major findings during the International Labour Organization consultations with migrant workers last January in Ha Noi. The events were part of the One UN consultation process for the post-2015 development agenda.

Consultation Meetings with Different Stakeholders on the Assessment of the Effects of Bilateral Labour Arrangements (BLA)

A roundtable discussion was conducted last 11 February 2013 at the ILO auditorium where Ms. Makulec presented the initial result of the interviews. Twenty five participants from the tripartite partners of the ILO DWAB actively participated in the discussions and expressed their interest and commitment to the assessment. Ms Makulec will be in Manila in July to present the final research study.

Lao People's Democratic Republic launches the first national skills standards

The first national skills standards for the Lao People's Democratic Republic were launched in Vientiane, focusing on the construction and automotive industries. The standards were developed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare with the support of the Partnership Programme of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Republic of Korea.
