    ILO supported Sindh TEVTA in establishing 147 Institute Management Committees to strengthen ‘Industry-Institute Linkages’

    The Empowering Vulnerable Groups through Education, Employment and Training (EET project) has supported Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority in strengthening industry-institute linkages (IIL) and work place learning (WPL) for TEVT institutes. In this regard studies to look at the current IIL and WPL practices were undertaken. The national seminar was held to present the findings and recommendations of the studies and to bring to light enablers and barriers of workplace learning in the context to technical and vocational education; and promote importance of IIL and WPL in workforce skills development.

    The ILO and the Australian workplace relations tribunal signed a memorandum of understanding to provide technical assistance in the area of labour dispute resolution.

    Strengthening business resilience of Indonesian small and medium enterprises in the face of disaster

    15 April 2013, Jakarta, Indonesia

    Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are vulnerable to various types and forms of threats, dangers or crisis. The recent flood emergency in Jakarta in early 2013, for example, had severely hurt businesses, particularly SMEs. Floods had destroyed SMEs’ business assets and disrupted their business continuity, which in turn would put them at risk of losing their businesses and falling into poverty.

    Provinces review Labour Laws with ILO Conventions

    More amendments are needed to harmonize the provincial Labour Legislations in line with Pakistan’s ratified ILO conventions. This was agreed by the representatives from the four provincial departments of labour, Gilgit-Baltistan, Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and Pakistan Workers Federation (PWF) who jointly reviewed the labour laws in a four days’ workshop, 26-29 March 2013, held in Islamabad.

    Health insurance system in Cambodia

    The ILO is supporting the Ministry of Labour of Cambodia in designing the health insurance branch of the National Social Security Fund. From January to March 2013 a series of missions has been undertaken focussing on the IT system design and the development of a medical classification of the activities of the health care facilities.

    Long Term care system design in Thailand

    The ILO is supporting the design of a Long Term care system in Thailand through cooperation with the French GIP-SPSI (Groupement d'Intérêt Public - Santé Protection Sociale International). A series of missions is scheduled in 2013 for French experts, Thai Government officials and the UN Social Protection Floor team in order to design a long term care system. The first mission which took place from 14 to 25 January had three objectives: (1) conduct a number of consultations and field visits to take stock of what Thailand has already achieved and come up with a situation analysis, (2) establish a sub-working group focused on the design of the long term care system in the framework of the UNPAF on social protection and (3) develop a roadmap for the design of the long term care scheme. The second mission is from 21 March to 29 March and aims to develop the institutional design and the costing model.

    ILO-IPEC Thailand releases a mapping survey snapshot on shrimp and seafood primary processing workpkaces in Samut Sakhon province in Thailand

    The ILO-IPEC project “Combating the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Shrimp and Seafood Processing Areas in Thailand” sponsored a research project during the second and third quarter of 2012 to survey primary processing facilities in Samut Sakhon, a province south of Bangkok.
