In October 2021, the International Labour Organization (ILO) convened a 3-day tripartite forum to discuss challenges and opportunities for the Asian garment sector in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and long-standing trends reshaping the supply chain.

Attended by some 80 representatives from governments, employers and workers organizations, as well as other industry partners from across Asia and beyond, participants affirmed the need to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic while proactively managing key drivers of change -among them technological transformation, environmental sustainability and climate change, evolving trade patterns, demographic shifts and the drive for gender equality.

To achieve this, they agreed that industry-wide action grounded in partnership, solidarity, and social dialogue would be essential in the coming years. This event was co-hosted by the ILO-Sida Decent Work in Garment Supply Chains Asia project, ILO Sectoral Policies Department, and the ILO-IFC Better Work Programme.
