  2. International Seminar on Jobs in Global Production Networks - Crisis and Recovery

    13 October 2009

    This seminar is organised jointly between the ILO and Thammasat University, with the funding support from the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training, under the ILO/Japan-JILPT Networking of Institutes for Labour Studies. The seminar will draw on the outcomes of the aforementioned project. It is also expected to contribute to the policy debate on economic recovery and decent jobs in Thailand and in the Asia-Pacific region.

  3. ILO/Japan/HRDF Seminar on Managing and Understanding Labour Migration through Social Dialogue at the Provincial Level

    12 - 14 October 2009

    Jointly organized by ILO/Japan Project on Managing Cross-border Movement of Labour in Southeast Asia and Human Rights and Development Foundation (HRDF). The goal of this provincial social dialogue is the promotion and support of migrant worker provincial policies and practices that increasingly improve working and living condition of migrant communities, contribute to the effective integration of migrant communities into Thai society and provide a voice to migrant concerns.

  4. National Awareness Raising Workshop on Protecting Your Employees and Business from Pandemic Human Influenza in the Workplace

    12 October 2009

    The Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR), Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) of Malaysia and the ILO project referred to as the Livelihoods Support for Avian & Human Influenza Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness at the Workplace Project will organize a National Awareness Raising Workshop on Protecting Your Employees and Business from Pandemic Human Influenza on 12 October 2009.

  6. ILO/Aoyama Gakuin University Lecture Series 2009: Global Economic Crisis and Employment Issues - ILO's Response (1)

    For the second year the ILO and Aoyama Gakuin University are co-organising a series of lectures around the theme of Decent Work. A series of 13 lectures is planned between 24 September 2009 and 14 January 2010. Each of the 90 minute lectures will be given by a distinguished expert in the field, drawn from the ILO's HQ in Geneva, from the ILO's Regional Headquarters in Bangkok, or in Japan. The aim of the lecture series is to encourage recognition of the ILO's activities in the world of work, to increase understanding of international labour-related problems, and to strengthen the relationship between the ILO and academia.

  7. MOLVT-ILO/Japan Third Consultative Workshop on Formulation of Foreign Employment Policies for Cambodia

    6 - 8 October 2009

    Jointly organized by Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, Cambodia and and ILO/Japan Project on Managing Cross-border Movement of Labour in Southeast Asia. The workshop is aimed at reviewing and finalizing the policy paper covering the proposed key policy areas, strategic areas, policy options and action plan.

    The Asian region is unquestionably one of the most influential powerhouses of the world economy. This can largely be attributed to the unleashing in the last two decades of its unique entrepreneurial dynamism in an increasingly more open, competitive and integrated market-based international economic setting. While Asian firms have been successful in generating impressive economic growth, it is also increasingly acknowledged that this enviable performance will not be sustained unless Asian businesses pay due attention to their broad responsibilities towards the governments and societies in which they operate.

  2. 3rd China-ASEAN Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction 4th ASEAN+3 High-Level Seminar on Poverty Reduction and Asia-wide High-Level Regional Conference and Special Seminar on The Impact of the Global Economic Slowdown on Poverty and Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific

    Asia is currently affected by the world's most serious global economic slowdown since the 1930s. The causes and impacts are different from the Asian Financial Crisis in 1998 in several respects. The current crisis concerns not only the very poor (i.e. those living under the $1.25 poverty line) but more so the vulnerable poor, mostly educated youth in the export sectors (and backward industries and services). Impact channels are going through labor markets, migration and remittances, social budgets, social protection, gender. health, education and training, among others.

  3. ILO/ASEAN Technical Workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)

    Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of the economies of ASEAN Member Countries, hugely outnumbering large enterprises in both the quantity of establishments and the share of the labour force they employ. The Technical Workshop, undertaken in collaboration with ASEAN, will explore how SMEs in the ASEAN region can be strengthened through corporate social responsibility (CSR).

  6. Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Grameen Shakti and Bureau of Management, Employment and Training

  7. Third Industrial Relations Team Meeting

    10 September 2009

    Third Industrial Relations Team (IRT) Meeting is organised under the ASEAN-ILO/Japan Industrial Relations Project. The meeting takes place on 10 September 2009 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. IRT members comprise representatives from workers' and employers' organisations, ASEAN Secretariat, ILO, lead country (Malaysia) and Government of Japan. The meeting discusses the preparation of the second Regional Seminar on Industrial Relations which will take place in Malaysia.

  8. HIV/AIDS Programme Dissemination Workshop

    9 - 11 September 2009

    The objective of the workshop was to share the models developed and lessons learnt in the implementation of the programme. The Ministry of Labour and Employment developed a National Policy on HIV/AIDS in the World of Work, and a proposal for mobilizing funds from Global funds to upscale activities on HIV/AIDS in the world of work.

  9. Work Improvement in Neighbourhood Development (WIND)Training

    7 - 11 September 2009

    A four day training from 7 to 10 September on the Work Improvement in Neighbourhood Development (WIND) Methodology was conducted for 42 participants, which included labour officers, agriculture inspectors, agrarian development officers, officers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), representatives from the Trade Unions and employers. The training also included a one day field visit to a farm.

  10. Sub-regional Training of Facilitators on Disability Equality Training

    7 - 11 September 2009

    There is a need to build the capacities of some key stakeholders on practical tools that will facilitate the promotion of ‘Promoting Decent Work for People with Disabilities through a Disability Inclusion Support Service’ (INCLUDE) in the selected countries and that will introduce a more inclusive approach in general. As countries in the region are moving towards the ratification and implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, there is grown demand for Disability Equality Training run by people with disabilities, which aims to help people understand the meaning of disability, identify changes in work practice, and plan strategies to implement change

  11. Training of Trainers on The Work Improvement in Neighbourhood Development Programme

    Training aims to improve safety in health and working conditions in the agriculture sector.
