23 Cambodian chefs receive training in Chinese cuisine from South-South Cooperation Skill Development Network

In partnership with Ministry of Tourism in Cambodia, the ILO/China Partnership Programme supported the Ministry of Tourism in Cambodia to organize the training of Chinese Cuisine

 
In collaboration with Hainan Technical College, a member of South-South Cooperation Skill Development Network. A total of 23 Cambodian chefs has successfully completed the training and received the knowledge on the original recipe and cooking method from the Chinese professional chef on 30 Nov 2022, in Siem Reap province. H.E Pak Sokhom, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism and Chairman of the Hoka Project Management Committee, Mr. Lin Lin, Deputy Director General of Human Resources and Social Security of Hainan Provincial Department of China, Mr. Yutong Liu, ILO-China Partnership Program Manager, and Shi Lei, Director of Hainan Technical College, presided over the opening ceremony of a live video conference and in person, with a total of 35 participants.



 
HE Pak Sokhom, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, confirmed to the ceremony that the training program has demonstrated the close cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and ILO, which has worked well together through the ILO-China Partnership Programme. The Ministry of Tourism has the opportunity to expand the exchange of knowledge and experience with Hainan Technical College of China, as well as to link with the School of Hospitality and Tourism in Siem Reap and the close cooperation of all stakeholders would contribute to the development of tourism professional skills in Cambodia in general and for chefs in particular.
 
 

Mr. Yutong Liu, ILO-China Partnership Program Manager, said that ILO is always focused on improving skills and providing decent employment opportunities for young people through vocational training in the form of up-skilling or re-skilling. In early 2022, the ILO-China Partnership Programme has supported the Ministry of Tourism to provide training to 160 food and beverage service professionals and tourism vocational training in Siem Reap and in early 2023, the project will expand to other provinces to provide more training on Front Office and Food and Beverage services for another 675 participants.
 


Mr. Lin Lin, Deputy Director General of Human Resources and Social Security of Hainan Provincial Department of China, fully supported the implementation of the South-South Cooperation, which was implemented by the ILO-China Partnership Program to strengthen cooperation, especially on strengthening professional skills, which is an important angle of the Sustainable Development Goal 8, focusing on economic growth and decent work. The program also adapted to the current circumstances for the rehabilitation of post-Covid-19 to promote job opportunities and productivity in the global economic globalization and resilience to the ongoing global crisis. He urged the ILO-China Partnership Program to continue to support Cambodia by expanding its professional relations not only with Hainan Technical College but also with other tourism vocational training institutions or schools to promote cultural exchanges.
