ILO/UNICEF joint Social Protection project conducted validation in Ethiopia

The EU-funded ILO/UNICEF joint project on “Improving Synergies between Social Protection and Public Finance Management organized a validation workshop on “Extending social protection to workers in the informal economy in Ethiopia” on 05 April 2022 at the Radisson BLU.

Dr. Debebe Barud, MoWSA Adviser to the Minister and Mr. Alexio Musindo, Director, ILO CO-Addis Ababa gave opening speeches. There were 23 participants in the workshop from Government Ministries, social protection institutions, ILO tripartite partners, NGOs and international development partners.

Presentations on conceptual framework on social protection extension to informal economy workers, and the findings and recommendations of the study on “Social Protection Extension to Workers in the Informal Economy in Ethiopia” were made during the workshop.

Group discussions were done on legal, policy, institutional arrangement and targeting of the informal economy for social protection extension.

The workshop was concluded by a set of recommendations as a way forward and with the establishment of a working group of 11 institutions. The ILO took the responsibility to organise future engagement.
