This publication highlights Ethiopia's growing population and economy, which has resulted in high demand for employment opportunities. Due to the limited local job market, many Ethiopians are migrating abroad in search of better employment prospects. To address this issue, the Ethiopian Government, particularly the Ministry of Labour and Skills, aims to enhance the country's human resources through technical and vocational training programs. These initiatives promote economic development, expand employment opportunities, and improve the quality of the labour force. The book emphasises the importance of communication skills, particularly in international languages, for competitiveness in the global labour market. Recognising the language barrier faced by Ethiopian migrant workers, the Ministry of Labour and Skills partnered with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and other stakeholders to revise Basic English for Workplace Communication training manual. The manual, equipped with various resources, aims to improve English language proficiency among potential and current migrants, enabling them to communicate effectively with employers and overcome challenges in destination countries.
