  1. DoL South Africa committed in Women’s Entrepreneurship Development

    Staff members of the Department of Labour (DoL) of South Africa were trained in improving skills and technical capacity of national and provincial staff to enable DoL to provide more effective services to women entrepreneurs. This training is part of a project between the ILO and DoL to work together in rolling out the WED training nationally to DoL branches in South Africa in 2012.

  3. ITUC Africa Congress calls for the mobilization of labour movement in Africa

    More than 250 delegates, observers and partners gathered in South Africa for the ITUC Africa Congress called for the mobilization of the labour movement in the continent. The congress – held in the presence of President Jacob Zuma - highlighted the critical role of the labour movement in sensitizing governments in policy making and pro-job creation legislations.

  5. SADC countries engaged in new employment policies and strategies

    Representatives of SADC countries met to examine and validate the new SADC draft policy and strategic documents on job creation being developed for consideration by their Ministers and Social Partners in April 2012, in Luanda, Angola.

    Prime Minister Nahas Hangula of Namibia and the ILO agreed to strengthen cooperation in support of improving livelihoods of the Marginalized Communities.ILO’s Director, Vic Van Vuuren, thanked the Government for Namibia for its significant work done on themes regarding Indigenous peoples as well as in issues linked to Decent Work.

    The United Nations Information Centre in Pretoria has set up an educational outreach programme to promote the role and function of the UN in South Africa. During the FUN (Fridays @ UN)-days, students/school children are invited for a brief introduction to the institution.

    The High-Level Seminar Promoting Freedom of Association and the Effective Recognition of the Right to Collective Bargaining was organised by the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) projects Global Project on promoting freedom of association and collective bargaining and Improving Labour Law Compliance in the United Republic of Tanzania (ILLC).
