CONSILMO organizes consultation seminar on one-stop shop initiative to support the extension of social security to the informal economy

With ILO’s support through the ACTION/Portugal project, the Confederation of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Mozambique (CONSILMO) is organizing on 5 November 2021 (from 9:00 to 13:00) a seminar to launch consultations on its new proposal, the One-Stop Shop for the Formalization of Micro and Small Enterprises and Workers (KUFMET in the Portuguese acronym).

The KUFMET initiative will aim at supporting the formalization of workers and economic units in the informal economy. Through inter-institutional coordination and partnerships with national entities dealing with business formalization, social security, taxation, financial inclusion, capacity building opportunities and personal identification, the one-stop shops will operate in public markets to facilitate access of informal workers and entrepreneurs to services and information so as to enable their formalization.

The consultation seminar will provide participants with an occasion to learn more about this proposal, discuss how different partners could coordinate and contribute for its realization, and exchange on best practices from national and international experience on the transition from the informal to the formal economy. The event will have representatives from various institutions, such as the National Institute of Social Insurance (INSS), the Tax Authority (AT), Maputo’s City Council, the Confederation of Business Associations Confederation of Mozambique (CTA), CONSILMO, and the National Institute of Social Action (INAS)

In the coming weeks a number of other awareness-raising and communication activities are planned by CONSILMO with ILO’s collaboration, including a press conference, television and radio debates, and other interventions to disseminate information on the KUFMET proposal among workers and businesses.
